J. Rowe

My name is J. Rowe. I'm a photographer and nature enthusiast based in Corvallis, Oregon. Surrounded by forests, rivers, and trails, I feel incredibly fortunate to call this place home. Every season here offers something new: Misty mornings in the forest, golden light through evergreens, and quiet trails that seem to stretch on forever. Living in this landscape constantly inspires me to step outside, explore with curiosity, and create images that reflect the sense of wonder I find in the natural world.

Photography began as a simple way for me to pause and notice the world around me. What started as small attempts to slow down and pay attention to light, texture, and fleeting details has grown into something much more meaningful. Over time, it's become my way of connecting more deeply with life, of finding beauty in quiet moments, of creating stories in the commonly ordinary, and of holding onto the experiences that might otherwise fade. With a camera in hand, I not only create, but also share the way I see the world, offering a glimpse into the perspectives and emotions that inspire me every day.

In my work, I lean toward a more muted, moody, and ethereal tone, creating a timeless, dreamy, and atmospheric look that invites a sense of longing and hope. I primarily shoot with a Sony A6100 mirrorless camera for photos and a Minolta XL601 Super 8 film camera for video. They're lightweight enough to take on long hikes, quick enough to catch those in-between moments, and sharp enough to bring each scene to life.

When I'm not out shooting, I'm probably buried in a good book. Reading gives me fresh ideas, perspective, and a different way of thinking and seeing the world, and sometimes that meshes into my photography. When I'm not reading or behind the camera, chances are I'm out exploring a quiet trail, taking it all in.
